A Letter to all Rail Supporters:
To all supporters, those who have expressed interest in the “South Fraser Community Rail Passenger Service,” and those who have offered to help in our campaign for a state-of-the-art service serving the FULL South Fraser Valley Community from the Pattullo Bridge Sky Train Station to Chilliwack:
I have the following message –
The “TransLink” proposal for a 16 Km rail line from Surrey Central to Langley City, will only serve 157,618 people at a cost of $ 3,200,000,000 or $20,302. per man, woman and child served. “The South Fraser Community Rail” with a State-of-the-Art Hydrail Passenger Rail Service, 99 Km from the Pattullo Bridge Sky Train Station all the way to Chilliwack, will serve 1,200,000 people at a cost of $ 1,250,000,000 or $1,465. per man, woman or child.
The “TransLink” proposal brings no relief to Highway 1 or Highway 99, the “South Fraser Community Rail” proposal brings considerable relief to the congestion of today.
The “TransLink” proposal serves no major public facilities, the “South Fraser Community Rail” proposal serves 16 Cities and communities, 14 Major Post-Secondary facilities, the Abbotsford Airport and major industrial parks.
The “TransLink” proposal at best provides for 3 High Density Residential Station Cores at Fleetwood, Clayton and Langley City; the “South Fraser Community Rail” proposal provides for 12 High Density Residential Station Cores throughout the Valley.
The “TransLink” proposal negatively affects Agricultural land and Green Space, the “South Fraser Community Rail” proposal protects ALR and Green Space using an existing corridor.
The “TransLink” proposal provides no relief to the high cost of housing, the “South Fraser Community Rail” proposal opens 12 Station areas for competitive housing opportunities to lower the cost of housing in the lower mainland.
The “TransLink” proposal serves no distinct job creating in Industrial areas, the “South Fraser Community Rail” proposal serves 3 strategic large Industrial areas.
As you know doubt have seen with TransLink’s recent cost announcement; what we have been saying for over 6 months in terms of cost has been confirmed – $3.12 + Billion. The explosion of media coverage over this issue in the 3 – 4 weeks after the announcement has made our proposal even more attainable for the people living in the Fraser Valley, common sense is starting to take hold, thanks to the hard work of so many volunteers.
A common denominator in all of this, our population is growing at a ridiculously fast rate and “we haven’t seen anything yet”. If we want to preserve that which makes our Valley so precious, we need to move NOW! We need to ACT now!
If you like what you see, remember the promotion for the “South Fraser Community Rail” proposal comes entirely from Volunteers who give of their own time and money, to do the necessary research, preparing packages of information for decision makers, meeting and talking to media, arranging and meeting with decision makers and getting this message out to as many people as possible including the holding of public meetings.
It is now time to reinforce our message, to our Provincial and Municipal politicians and to the general public. Play an integral part in our fall campaign by making-a-donation today. if you can help by donating, we really would appreciate any help and support you can provide, you can donate by credit card or cheque.
